The high tea was in support of Young care, an organisation which helps young people with high assisted living needs exit or avoid admissions to aged care facilities. There were two events on the day. The Royal afternoon tea and conversation with Paul Burrell was the main event however prior to that there was a VIP event for only 12 people which I attended. The presence of Diana lingers around him, almost to the point you expect her to pop through the door at any second.
My first impressions of Paul Burrell, he has a smile which is larger than life, he radiates warmth and personality, he is slightly embarrassed when you ask him for a hug but always obliging, he is skilled at putting people at ease and calming their nerves, he effortlessly drawers you into conversation. His sunny disposition and megawatt smile are what directly led to him getting the job as the Queens personal footman after only two years of service at Buckingham Palace.
Slipping 2 sausages in his back pocket he went to see the Queen. Out in the gardens of Buckingham Palace the Queen peeked through the curtains as her 8 corgis, normally terrors to control were enthralled and chasing down the footman, or his two sausages at least. Always respectful of the entire Royal family he cannot be baited to speak poorly of even Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall. In fact, I kind of get the feeling that he wishes people would stop mentioning both Camilla and Diana in the sentence.
That he does not want Camilla to become as synonymous with Diana as her boys, Kensington Palace and her style. That he hopes when we focus our discussion on Diana we will focus on her legacy, her charity work, the way she changed the Royals and the world, her sons and grandchildren and not be fixated on the parts of her life which brought such pain and heartache.
It is surprising how little gossip and scandal he does discuss.

We are grinning from ear to ear. Camooweal is a so called suburb of Mt Isa, being administered from the mining town. The caravan park residents were well entertained when we decided to go and look at the cemetery; we have a strap that holds up the towing safety chains and whilst all the main gear had been disconnected the strap was left done up, on the car end of the tow hitch – wrong.
We travelled quite a few metres with the van kitchen extended and roof up, power cable spooling out but still connected trundling along dutifully behind. Unfortunately the electrical cables got caught up and stretched so we had no turn indicators anymore. Camooweal is most interesting for the large lagoon on the Georgina River, which was just brimming with bird life. Brolgas, kites, duck by the hundreds, all were jostling for air space over this lovely lily covered place.
Slow moving depressions headed south-west are being driven by a coastal trough which has drenched the Coast over the past three days. With plenty of rain falling upriver, there could be localised flooding in Nambour and Maroochydore this evening, when the high tide arrives. Swan Boat Hire’s Mark Planck said the tide would be about 2m high, as it headed towards a new moon later this week.

Indigenous Australians Aboriginal rock art in the Kimberley region of Western Australia Human habitation of the Australian continent is estimated to have begun around 65, to 70, years ago, with the migration of people by land bridges and short sea-crossings from what is now Southeast Asia. These first inhabitants were the ancestors of modern Indigenous Australians.
The Torres Strait Islanders , ethnically Melanesian , obtained their livelihood from seasonal horticulture and the resources of their reefs and seas. European exploration of Australia Portrait of Captain James Cook , the first European to map the eastern coastline of Australia in The first recorded European sighting of the Australian mainland, and the first recorded European landfall on the Australian continent in , are attributed to the Dutch. The first ship and crew to chart the Australian coast and meet with Aboriginal people was the Duyfken captained by Dutch navigator, Willem Janszoon.
The first settlement led to the foundation of Sydney , and the exploration and settlement of other regions. A British settlement was established in Van Diemen’s Land , now known as Tasmania, in , and it became a separate colony in South Australia in , Victoria in , and Queensland in Similar ceremonies are held in many suburbs and towns. On 1 January , federation of the colonies was achieved after a decade of planning, consultation and voting. Melbourne was the temporary seat of government from to while Canberra was being constructed.

Cambage in his book Notes on the Native Flora of New South Wales, Part X, the Federal Capital Territory noted that Joshua John Moore, the first settler in the region, named the area Canberry in stating that “there seems no doubt that the original was a native name, but its meaning is unknown. In , some of the older residents of the district claimed that the name was derived from the Australian Cranberry which grew abundantly in the area, noting that the local name for the plant was canberry.
History of the Australian Capital Territory Before white settlement , the area in which Canberra would eventually be constructed was seasonally inhabited by Indigenous Australians. Anthropologist Norman Tindale suggested the principal group occupying the region were the Ngunnawal people , while the Ngarigo lived immediately to the south of the ACT, the Wandandian to the east, the Walgulu also to the south, Gandangara people to the north, and Wiradjuri to the north west.
Archaeological evidence of settlement in the region includes inhabited rock shelters, rock paintings and engravings, burial places, camps and quarry sites, and stone tools and arrangements. European exploration and settlement started in the Canberra area as early as the s. The district’s change from a rural area in New South Wales to the national capital started during debates over Federation in the late 19th century.
By many accounts, it was decisive in the selection of Canberra as the site in , as was a result of survey work done by the government surveyor Charles Scrivener.

Mountain Designs spokesman Chris Hartley said four regional stores closed yesterday while four more would close on Wednesday, including Toowoomba. Mr Hartley said while the store was one of the newest for the company, factors such as increased competition, online shopping and decreased foot traffic were to blame. Toowoomba’s Mountain Designs store will close on Wednesday.
Bev Lacey “The ongoing operation of the group is dependent on the support of its shareholders and ongoing sales growth,” the accounts said. Mr Hartley referenced the report and said unfortunately that meant the company had to look at under-performing stores. He said the company was still operation and not in administration.

September 10 – 16, Back in Roger Wickins of Clareville had an open heart surgery to replace a faulty valve. Part of the recovery exercise regime was a daily swim. He found that it was difficult to hold his head above the water due to the scar on his chest so he shaved off his moustache and took to snorkelling. Roger says that tomato soup and snorkelling are a strong argument against a moustache. He set about clearing up the mess. Duck diving improved his lung capacity and he often swam with a garden rake to the amusement of swimmers on the beach.
In that summer alone he recycled over one hundred and sixty containers from in and around the pool together with a lot of other rubbish. Roger found a number of these bottles which he kept.
